"My 91 year old mother had lost her husband of 72 years just 5 months prior to her joining the Oakmont Gardens Community.  She had lived in the same house for 57 years and was not the least bit interested in moving from her home with so many memories.  Mom did pretty well on her own - she did not want live-in help - but her children were really worried about her personal safety and the loneliness that occurred after the death of her husband.

Mom, somewhat reluctantly but with the urging and support of her three children, moved to Oakmont Gardens in December of 2009.  At first she missed her home and was very unsure if she would be happy being away from the memories and comfort of the house she shared with her husband and where her children grew up.  We children moved her favorite furniture, paintings and accessories, including the bird feeder which she watched for hours, to her new freshly painted apartment. 

It is now early March, 2010, and Mom is very content and pleased to be at Oakmont Gardens.  What really seemed to make the difference is the kindness and gentleness of the staff, the pleasant physical surroundings and the fact that she has made several new friends with similar recent experiences and interests.  Her kids are quite thrilled that Mom seems to be very happy in her new home and, in fact, seems to be in better health than the months following her husband's passing..  We are thankful that we found Oakmont Gardens."
